WOODEN DICE
Out of all the possibilities for rpg dice, wooden sets are a fun and stylish option for any tabletop game, and an excellent addition to your collection of DND Dice. It is hard to find a better set of novelty dice than ones made from wood. Wood dice are beautiful, unique options for artisan or specialty dice, available in as many styles as there are usable types of wood.
Deep in the twisting branches of the forest, the kingdom of the Woodland Elves flourishes, protected through both its camouflage, and the wild, magical power of those who live there. These craftsmen are not blacksmiths, for all that elven chainmail and jewelry is sought after the world over, and their products are a good deal more delicate than that of human or dwarven hands. Instead, the Elves of the Wood take from the trees surrounding them, carving out delicate beads, stretching bows and fletching arrows, and spinning the delicate loops of metal for their chain and accessories. Among the most delicate of their crafts is the making of dice - delicate instruments of fate and fortune-telling, which require a deft hand to carve into perfect balance.
Specialty Dice
When it comes to specialty dice for Dungeons and Dragons, metal may be the most ubiquitous, but wood is equally functional and engaging for your game. These forest-y, natural options not only look amazing, but are great quality, and have excellent balance, so they can be used for real gameplay.
These are artisan dice, that look so natural that you’d almost think you could plant them like seeds and grow yourself a whole new tree. It wouldn’t sprout, obviously, as you don’t grow plants out of their wood, and anyway these are finely carved and polished for longevity of use and display.
Going Against the Grain
Just like metal and stone, wood is a material that has been in use for thousands and thousands of years, making it perfectly appropriate for the style of a D&D game. Connection with the forest, nature, and all of its associated magical properties, is an essential part of many characters and fantasy worlds, which you can celebrate with a set of these wooden dice.
Maybe you’re looking to make a character set for an elf or a druid, and are inspired by the look and feel that often go along with them. Maybe your favorite player always uses a bow, and you’d like to give them dice to look like what they’re rolling for. Maybe, even, you’re looking for a set to fit in with an enchanted-forest adventure. An emphasis on the natural world is a huge aspect of fantasy, and DnD in particular!
Whatever the inspiration, a wooden set will look great for your world.
Character Flair
Just like the worlds that they exist in, several Dungeons and Dragons tabletop races and classes draw from the woods and the natural world. Having dice to reflect them is the perfect option!
Druid Dice
Druids are unique among most dnd classes in their inability to use metal armor, and strong inclination against it. For a druidic character, almost any wooden dice set works!
Elven Dice
5e puts much more emphasis on High Elves, making Wood Elves an optional sub-race, but previous editions make the Woodland Elves front and center to their worlds. As Tolkien described them as “...more dangerous and less wise” than their brethren, their free-spirited and chaotic connection to nature is emphasized in their culture. For an elven character, try the Overworld set!
Drow Dice
Drow may live underground, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have some connection to nature. Dark Elves have a shadowy aesthetic, for the most part, and draw much of their design from delicate spiderwebs. For a drow character, try an Underdark or Shadowfell set.
Halfling Dice
Halflings, for all their emphasis and love of home, are often described as a semi-nomadic race. Their love of wood and nature draws from its value in the hearth. For a halfling character, try an Overworld set.
Ranger Dice
Rangers are not so connected to nature as Druids, and instead act as guides and watchmen, protecting people and journeying into wild lands. For a Ranger character, almost any set of wooden dice works, but Feywild is an excellent choice in particular.
